Contract status - Fixed term apprenticeship contract for 4 years
Hours - Full-time, 36 hours per week (20% study time)

About the role
We have a new and exciting apprenticeship opportunity within our Environmental Health Shared Service. As an Apprentice Environmental Protection Officer, you will be involved in a wide variety of work – everything from processing transactional items into our systems, working closely with other team members to resolve queries and using your own initiative to improve processes. 

This apprenticeship role covers everything from private sector housing improvement; public health and food safety to environmental protection, and occupational health and safety. An environmental health degree also equips you with everything you need to enter a wide variety of careers.

We'd like our successful candidate to start with us as soon as possible to get an insight into the basic principles of environmental health and protection, enabling you to hit the ground running with your apprenticeship studies which will formally start in September 2020 with Middlesex University London, full details are available here.

About you
Previous work experience in this area is not essential, but we are looking for people with drive, enthusiasm, the right attitude and some core skills such as communication skills, team player and ICT literacy. You must also have the commitment to complete the training and qualifications associated with the apprenticeship. 

In order to be considered, you will have 3 A Levels/equivalent with at least one A level in a science or technology subject drawn from Chemistry, Biology, Human Biology, Physics, Geography, Geology, Environmental Science, Nutrition, Food Science or similar however relevant or prior experiential learning may also be considered as an alternative.

Please note, in order to qualify for apprenticeship funding and be considered for this post you must also meet the following criteria:
  • Hold a GCSE level C/equivalent in Maths and English and be able to present original qualification certificates - if you do not hold these qualifications/certificates you must be committed to complete these via functional skills assessments as part of the apprenticeship.
  • Only apply for an apprenticeship unrelated to any qualifications they hold at the same or higher level than the apprenticeship they wish to apply for. The apprenticeship being applied for must be unrelated in subject and content from the qualification already held.
  • Not be enrolled on another funded apprenticeship or another funded further education or higher education programme at the time you start your new apprenticeship.
  • Have the right to work and study in England and be one of the following:
  1. A citizen of a country within the European Economic Area (EEA) or have the right to abode in the UK and have been resident in the EEA for at least the previous three years on the first day of your apprenticeship.
  2. A non-EEA citizen with permission from the UK government to live in the UK, (not for educational purposes) and have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least the previous three years before the start of learning.
Our offer
This apprenticeship is offered on a minimum contract duration of 4 years, offers 23 days paid annual leave, access to our staff benefits (including discounts at local shops, restaurants and attractions), and a minimum starting salary of £20,463 per annum, rising in annual increments to £23,463 per annum.
