Kingston and Sutton established a fully integrated shared ICT service in 2013. We are working to transform the way that we use technology to provide high quality and value for money public services for our boroughs. The Shared Service are making major strides forward in moving to cloud computing, modern and mobile technology, delivering great digital services for local residents and businesses and making the most out of our information assets.

We’re using Google Apps for Work to make mobile and collaborative working part of ‘business as usual’ for all our users and we’re updating our other systems and devices to make it easier than ever for teams across both councils to work anywhere, anytime, from any device.

A vacancy for a talented network & security engineer has arisen within the ICT Operations team. We are looking for a engineer to design, implement, maintain, and support our growing network infrastructure. You will be part of a team that is responsible for designing and developing scalable, maintainable, highly available network architectures that meet business objectives and SLAs.

Experience and knowledge of core networking principles and technologies are essential along with a flexible, can do attitude.

The shared service incorporates a complex network consisting of 2 core sites and over 200 satellite WAN sites utilising a variety of hardware including Cisco ASA, Checkpoint and Juniper firewalls, Cisco switching including Nexus and a Citrix user environment based on Hyper-V technology.

The successful candidate will be a confident communicator and possess excellent attention to detail, analytical and problem-solving skills. Their goal is to ensure the integrity of high availability network infrastructure to provide maximum performance for their users.

Main Responsibilities
• Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS)
• Perform network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations
• Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability
• Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning
• Provide Level-2/3 support and troubleshooting to resolve issues
• Work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to the network infrastructure
• Select and implement security tools, policies, and procedures in conjunction with the company’s security team
• Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
