About us
A key objective of our corporate plan ‘Making Kingston Better,Together’ is to create a Cleaner, Greener borough. With clear ambitions around protecting and enhancing our local and wider environment, a new role of Biodiversity Officer has been created to ensure these priorities are delivered, building on the activity and good practice of our services and local communities to date.

About the role
The role will work in a new team focused on the development of our green spaces and will be responsible for effectively managing, developing and promoting activities relating to conservation and ecology in parks, open spaces, conservation areas and trees. A key requirement of the role will be to work with teams across the organisation, particularly in our Neighbourhoods, Strategy, Planning and Regeneration teams as well as with local community and interest groups to shape our future strategy and activity in this area.

Key deliverable include the development of a refreshed Biodiversity Action Plan for the borough, providing comment on environmental aspects of planning applications; consultations and internal reports on conservation and ecology; completion of site based Phase I Habitat Surveys and Net Gain Biodiversity Assessments and development of management plans for conservation sites, Local Nature Reserves and parks and open spaces.

About you
The right person for this role will have a passion for nature conservation and partnering with others to deliver positive outcomes for our local environment. A relevant qualification in an ecological discipline will be supported by experience of working in a nature conservation or ecology role, with a record of delivering projects in collaboration with others.

Knowledge and understanding of UK legislation and planning policies with regard to biodiversity, habitats and species is essential . The ideal candidate would also bring experience of partnership working with strong stakeholder management skills;good communication skills with experience of writing funding bids and reports and an understanding of commissioning and procurement of services.
