Situated in Zone 6, Kingston is among the best-connected town centres in London – just 12 miles from central London with direct train links from Kingston and Surbiton stations to Clapham Junction and London Waterloo, as well as Wimbledon for an interchange with the London Underground, Tramlink and Thameslink trains. There’s also an extensive road network which provides close and easy access to the M3 and M25. Our offices are located in the town centre just a few steps from the ancient market, thriving town centre and the waterfront. 

About the role:
This role is within Kingston Heritage Service’s team. Kingston Heritage Service manages two sites; Kingston Museum and Kingston History Centre. This role will be based at Kingston Museum; a purpose built grade II listed museum which tells the story of Kingston's communities and places - from the Saxons through to the present day. The collection includes a large collection of an internationally famous local photographer and inventor Edweard Muybridge. 

The Development & Promotions Officer will develop and run marketing & income activity to raise the profile of Kingston Heritage Service’s Sites, collections, projects and events. Working with the Heritage Service Team you will seek opportunities to drive visitor numbers to Kingston Museum and increase our income generation opportunities through space and events hire. This will entail; developing and delivering exciting new ideas about how to brand, market and publicise our sites, collections and projects as well as developing and implementing increased income generation activity through space and events hire as well as other income generation initiatives.

This role will also oversee the Young People's Board with the support of Kingston Museum's Saturday Assistant - finding ways to engage the board and give them responsibility to input into the service. The work fits into the key remit of the Heritage Service to actively engage diverse audiences from across the borough. You will play a key role in ensuring that our marketing & messaging clearly communicates Kingston’s Heritage (making it relevant to today's society) and that this reflects the voices of Kingston’s communities.

We are looking for someone who understands how to implement and integrate a brand across all channels for visitors.
  • You would need to be confident at collaborating with the team to guide the overall look and feel of our internal & external communications, exhibitions, events and learning activities. 
  • You will have a background in developing increased income opportunities through space and events hire as well as other income generation initiatives.
  • As part of this you will have experience advertising,securing bookings and working with the team to realise these activities ensuring that we reach our income targets. 
To be successful in this role you will be an excellent communicator, able to digest information and share it in a way that interests a wide and diverse range of audiences - and have a natural eye for design experienced at creatively sharing this information digitally (website & social media), in print and in person.You’ll be confident at working with young people and have knowledge on how to embed a young people’s board into the organisation.
